The Fast and the Furious - Single

about

You don't have to pay for it. It's up to you. This is a song to mark a very sad day, thrust upon us by duplicity and delusions of grandeur. It's a day of division: celebration for some, despair for others, with no sign of the two sides realising anytime soon that we are part of the same country. Yes, it's my country too.

lyrics

THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS

So the empty head xenophobes finally got their way
On a promise, on a bond, with no intention to pay
From their bulging pockets and padded behinds
Their sickly demeanour and clever-arsed rhymes

And the gates of gold for the privileged few
Paths lined with diamonds and other fine jewels
The offshore vaults that their Learjets fuel
While the Barrier crumbles and the Amazon fumes

And “the people” back home in celebratory mode
The colours and chimes to the Emperor’s new clothes
Fireworks explode in the blackening sky
Bonging to silence the reprehensible lies

Years to find settlement. Years to find peace.
A life of parole with no chance of release.
We’ll feast on propaganda three times a day
While the fast and the furious feed on their prey
Gloat all you like and drink rivers of blood
Choke on duplicity, cunning and fraud
We’ll resurrect Cable Street, win back our dreams
Don’t dare take our silence as a sign of defeat

The crystal ball smashed on impossible dreams
Of arrogant self-proclaimed kings and queens
Gypsy Rose Lee never contemplated this
As she dealt out the Tarots of deceit and abyss

The lobster red newlyweds on their journey home
To a bonfire of principle not hitherto known
To find difference and bitterness where once they found love
Trampled confetti from Heaven above

A future of begging for friendship and hope
A future dependent on money for old rope
The rose-tinted spectacles crushed in the mud
A future of dreams duly nipped in the bud

Gloat all you like and drink rivers of blood
Choke on duplicity, cunning and fraud
We’ll resurrect Cable Street, win back our dreams
Don’t dare take our silence as a sign of defeat
